|
The objective of this study is to propose an alternative to problems found in research conducted so far into the subject of smart phone addiction among Korean children and youth through a process of critical analysis of those studies. Qualitative content analysis was conducted for the purposes of this study on academic concepts and clinical traits inherent within smart phone addiction among Korean children and youth, with one thread dealing with individual psychological variables from 2011 to 2015. This study attempted to define the concepts of smart phone addiction among Korean children and youth and examine individual psychological variables as well as clinical traits and involvement in smart phone addiction. Finally, it clarified a number of extant issues on the concept inherent within, measurement and diagnosis of smart phone addiction, and the clinical diagnosis and intervention methods available as well as weaknesses within current clinical research. In conclusion, research into smart phone addiction amongst children and youth needs to be approached both at the national and local level and clinical specialists need to be involved in order to revitalize and make positive academic progress in activating higher quality clinical research into this area.
